Tips for Atmospheric Lighting in your Living Room
Lighting is one of the most important elements in your interior. It not only determines the atmosphere, but can also completely change the functionality and appearance of your living room. But how do you ensure that your lighting finds exactly the right balance between coziness and practical use? We give you 5 handy tips!
Work with Multiple Light Sources
A single ceiling lamp is often not enough to create a warm and cozy atmosphere. Combine different types of lighting, such as:
Basic lighting: This is your general lighting, such as a ceiling lamp or recessed spotlights.
Accent lighting: For example, use wall lamps or LED strips to highlight certain corners or works of art.
Mood lighting: Think of table lamps, floor lamps or candles to create a warm and cozy atmosphere.
Choose the Right Light Color
The color temperature of your lighting has a major influence on the atmosphere. Use:
Warm white (2700K – 3000K) for a cozy and relaxed look.
Neutral white (3500K – 4000K) for a bright and fresh atmosphere.
Cool white (5000K – 6500K) for a modern and energetic look.
For the living room, warm white is usually the best choice to create an inviting atmosphere.
Use Dimmable Lighting
With dimmable lighting, you determine the light intensity yourself and adjust it to the time of day. For example, choose a dimmable LED pendant lamp above the dining table or a standing lamp with a built-in dimmer.
Play with Shadow and Light
By strategically placing lighting, you can create a dynamic effect in your interior. Place a floor lamp behind an armchair or let a table lamp cast subtle shadows on the wall for a playful effect.
Use Smart Lighting
With smart lighting, such as Philips Hue or connect smart lamps, you can easily adjust the color and brightness via your smartphone or voice assistant. This allows you to change the atmosphere of your living room within a second!
